• Rich History

Stonyrun Farms is rich in history with the 4th and 5th generations of the family now running the business. Stonyrun Farms got it's start in 1904 and is based in Northern Chester County in Southeast Pennsylvania.Β

The farm is based on some of the most fertile and productive land in the USA. During the summer months the cow herd has pasture and grazing access and in the winter is fed forage harvested and stored in the nearly 200 year old barn.Β

The barn and house which make up the homestead were built in the 1800s and have been in the family since 1904. The farm has been home to many breeds of cattle including Guernseys, Holsteins, Jerseys, Β Angus, and now Wagyu cattle.

  • Family Business

Loren Ruth and his son Mitchell Ruth are the 4th & 5th generation owners and operators of Stonyrun Farms. They run all farming operations with the assistance of Loren's two daughters (Kelsey & Lindsay) and father (Vernon Ruth).

The Ruth family has had a long dairy farming history before transitioning to Wagyu in 2008. Loren's father and grandfather were both dedicated and successful dairy farmers and Loren himself still owns and breeds Jersey cattle today. Mitchell went to college for dairy science at Cornell and managed a dairy farm for 5 yrs. after graduating college. Loren's daughter Kelsey even currently owns and operates an artisan creamery (Pure Joy Creamery).

  • Current Wagyu Focus

Stonyrun Farms now has a Wagyu focus. In 2008 the 1st Wagyu were purchased and brought to Stonyrun Farms by Loren Ruth. This decision was not made overnight though. It started years earlier.

After reading an article about Blackmore Wagyu beef in a dairy magazine Loren decided to do some research on this unique breed. He subsequently found a farm raising Wagyu in NY to visit. After buying and tasting a steak and some burgers he was sold! It was at that point he knew the Ruth family at the very least wanted this amazing beef to raise for themselves.

Since that time the farm has grown to encompass three separate methods for raising Wagyu beef. The 1st is 100% Fullblood Wagyu, the 2nd is Purebred Wagyu, and the 3rd is Crossbred Wagyu. With these three labels we hope to bring the spectacular eating experience of Wagyu to all consumer levels!Β

Breeding Herd

Bedded Pack Barn & Pasture

Our cow herd is managed on a pasture and bedded pack barn system. This allows our cows to have shelter from the elements and still have free range to wander and graze in the summer. During the winter our cows are fed a hay and grain ration that is balanced to give them optimal nutrition.Β

Herd Health

Our cows are on a regularly scheduled herd health program to ensure they are protected from all diseases, viruses, and parasites. We planned our herd health program with our veterinarian's advice and input to ensure our cows have the best possible care and protection.

  • World-Leading Dams

Our genetics are sought after worldwide and marketed under the Synergy Wagyu name, which is a partnership between Loren and his son Mitchell. Pictured is Stonyrun Suzito 3, a top selling cow from our 2018 sale. We have exported genetics from our cattle to Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and South Africa.

  • Original Japanese Genetics

The Stonyrun herd is based on the absolute best genetics to have been exported from Japan. Pictured is World K's Suzutani, who is arguably the best Wagyu cow to have been exported from Japan. Her genetics are the base of our Wagyu beef program.

  • Breed Leading Sires

We actively search for, breed, and utilize only the best Wagyu bulls available in the world. We have imported and exported semen from the USA, Australia, Europe, and South Africa.
